NW Briefs | Central women’s basketball rolls past Cascade

ELLENSBURG - Five Central Washington players scored in double figures, and the Wildcats posted their second-highest point total in school history in routing Cascade College 109-59 in a nonconference women’s basketball game Sunday night at Nicholson Pavilion.

Hanna Hull made her first six field-goal attempts and scored 15 points in the first 6:15 as Central (3-0) surged out to an early double-digit lead. The margin reached 20 points just once in the first half - with 1:13 remaining - but the Wildcats held a comfortable 49-30 halftime advantage.

Central opened the second half with a 17-2 run to push its advantage to 66-32. The Wildcats cruised the rest of the way, outscoring the Thunderbirds 60-29 in the half to finish with their first 100-point outing since Nov. 17, 2000.

CWU fell two points shy of the all-time record of 111 points, set in a 48-point win over Whitworth in 1977.

Hull finished as the game’s top scorer with 19 points, while Shaina Afoa had a career-best game of 18 points and 15 rebounds. Kristina Klapperich and Brooke Fernandez had 16 points each.
